What position do you/ did you used to play?
Used to play in left midfield as I was normally the only left footed player in the team, but recently started playing in a competitive 6-aside league where I've found I'm actually better suited to playing as a centre back. Although I think that might be because years of smoking in the past and doing no exercise has left my fitness a bit fucked.

Glacial slow central midfielder who was tall, built like a brick shit-house and quite enjoyed crunching people. All good as far as it went but I had the skills of a rottweiler on roller-skates.
Quit football and went and played rugby instead where I became a rather handy front-rower.

Re: What position do you/ did you used to play?
I played in the news on league up front , the joined the raf and depending on the team played all over. For the top teams at the raf I played left wing /back or right wing right back , played against the other services, Middlesbrough, Blackburn,Sheffield wed , Coventry and Argentina u21s they were unreal. When I started Sunday in my 30s,I was centre mid that's when I eventually got broke and my knees went. I wasn't particularly fast but intelligent, very good with ball and winning it, really fit as well just a lack of genuine pace so had to work really hard.

After watching my 10 year old play once he asked me in the car how he played.

I told him that his coach was very happy with him and that I clearly heard him say that you were like Kaka in the first half and Shittu in the second.

Re: What position do you/ did you used to play?
Speed and strength are the absolute key for determining who goes up front in secondary school. For the first three years our school football team employed the fact that this kid, ANWAR, was about 6 foot tall and could do the hundred metres in about 12 flat. So the strategy would be to get a hold of the ball, pump it into the channel, and let the cunt bolt after it. Many a cold wednesday you'd hear agass shouting out "RUN, ANWAR, RUN!".

Of course he was probably 30 in the first and by the time we were all 16 he was shit. He was also the ripest fucker i'd ever smelt. I remember one Saturday we were getting changed and he was still covered in the mud from wednesday's game.

As schoolboy - Inside Left
As a Senior Amateur - became an overlapping Left Back
(That was in the era of wingless wonders)

Well to be honest what my manager said about my performance against Chesham Town when I was marking a guy called Len Worley ( an England Amateur International and the last amateur to play in Spurs first team.)

"Son you started that game like Terry Cooper but unfortunately you finished it like Tommy!"

When I played football it was either left back, centre back or keeper.

Mainly on the left but can play on the right and cut in.

Re: What position do you/ did you used to play?
Post below is a copy of an earlier post from a Hugh Monteith KEEPER thread.

I recall playing just the ONE game up front for the under 11's or maybe under 12's, managed to score with a toe poke. Career record of a goal a game still intact.

My greatest save.

I was a between the sticksman in the pre back pass rule days.

School team, I was the second choice keeper; didn't get a game in the first year but as the first choice keeper started to doubled up as a quality midfield general I began to get picked and by the third year the position was mine.

Anyway one game I made what can only be described as the greatest save the world has never seen.

We have a corner lose possesion and a few seconds later their left winger is homing in on my goal and about 10 yards outside the left hand side of penalty box, I'm advancing towards him (just inside the box) to narrow the angle when the cheeky fucker tries to lob me.

I have to pedal backwards, reverse backflip and by the six yard line I'm completely horizontal about a foot above the ground I feel the fucking ball on the fingertips of my weaker left hand and I claw upwards with every fibre in my scrawny body.

My head turns round a split second later expecting to see the fucking thing in the back of the net but to my amazement it has arched up and over the bar and it bounces off a net stanchion.

CORNER.

We won 7-0 that day and even though it was over 30 years ago I still remember the beautiful sight of that ball bouncing up off the stanchion.

WHAT A FUCKING SAVE.

Jim79,

I played against Mark Gower, for my District (Redbridge v Hevering).

I played in goal. He scored a diving header and we lost 3-0.

He was on Tottenham's books at the time.
